The Dial-up Turbocharger™ runs on any of these Microsoft Windows products:

  • Windows XP
  • Windows 98, or Windows 98 Second Edition
  • Windows 2000 with Service Pack 4
  • Windows ME (Windows Millennium Edition)

The Windows version of Dial-up Turbocharger™ uses NOW!Imaging technology for the best speeds. Your computer must have Internet Explorer 6 installed to use NOW!Imaging.

The Dial-up Turbocharger™ runs on any of these Apple Mac OS X products:

  • OS X 10.4 (Tiger)
  • OS X 10.3 (Panther)
  • OS X 10.2 (Jaguar)

If your computer is older than 6 years, it might not be able to run the Dial-up Turbocharger™ (even if your computer has one of the above Windows or OS X systems.)

Using the Dial-up Turbocharger™ with other security or internet software.

What programs might clash with the Dial-up Turbocharger™?

Programs that use your computer's network or internet connection might conflict.

Applications that do anti_virus, firewall, parental control, spyware, proxying, or any form of web or email scanning make use of your net connection.

The majority of software works with the Dial-up Turbocharger™ without any problems.

One possible reason for a conflict is that the program is an older version, and that running a newer version will fix the conflict.

Is AVG anti_virus compatible with the Dial-up Turbocharger™?
AVG anti_virus isn't working?

AVG anti_virus doesn't recognise the way Dial-up Turbocharger™ downloads your emails to your computer, so it doesn't apply its normal email scanning.

If your internet connection plan is with Australia On Line, your email is already scanned for viruses.

If you prefer to turn off the Dial-up Turbocharger™ email acceleration so that AVG anti_virus scans your emails:

Is Norton Internet Security 2004 compatible with the Dial-up Turbocharger™?
Norton Internet Security 2004 isn't working?

Norton Internet Security 2004 doesn't recognise the way Dial-up Turbocharger™ downloads websites to your computer, so it doesn't apply its normal website scanning.

To get Norton Internet Security 2004 to recognise the Dial-up Turbocharger™:

  • Click Options in Norton Internet Security 2004.
  • Click Firewall.
  • In HTTP port list, click Add.
  • Type in 5400.
  • Click OK.
Is McAfee VirusScan compatible with the Dial-up Turbocharger™?

McAfee VirusScan version 7 and older might cause the warning "E-mail acceleration features have been disabled because incompatible software was detected on this system" when you run the Dial-up Turbocharger™.

This message means that Dial-up Turbocharger™ will work, but it won't speed up your email.

Errors with the McAfee Internet Security Suite and Dial-up Turbocharger™ on Windows 98 or Windows ME?
Errors with the McAfee Personal Firewall and Dial-up Turbocharger™ on Windows 98 or Windows ME?

With Windows 98 or Windows ME, if you install the Dial-up Turbocharger™ then later install McAfee Internet Security Suite or McAfee Personal Firewall, you might see the error messages "This program has performed an illegal operation and will be shut down" and "An unexpected error has occurred in 'MPFTRAY.EXE'".

These errors mean the McAfee software is conflicting with the Dial-up Turbocharger™.

To solve this problem:

  • Download the Dial-up Turbocharger™ again.
  • Uninstall the McAfee Internet Security Suite (or Personal Firewall).
  • Uninstall the Dial-up Turbocharger™.
  • Turn your computer off then turn it on again (reboot).
  • Install the McAfee Internet Security Suite (or Personal Firewall).
  • Install the Dial-up Turbocharger™ from the downloaded file.
  • Turn your computer off then turn it on again (reboot).

The important thing is to install the McAfee software before installing the Dial-up Turbocharger™.

Is ZoneAlarm 5 compatible with the Dial-up Turbocharger™?
ZoneAlarm 5 isn't working?
Computer freezes when you visit any website, and you're running ZoneAlarm 5?

Running ZoneAlarm 5 at the same time as the Dial-up Turbocharger™ causes your computer to freeze when you try to visit any websites.

To solve this, please upgrade your ZoneAlarm to version 5.1 or newer.

Versions of ZoneAlarm older than 5 or newer than 5 don't have this problem.

Troubleshooting websites, webpages, & pictures.

Why can't I connect?

Do you see a warning sign (a yellow triangle with an exclamation mark "!") in the bottom right corner of your screen?

The yellow warning sign means the Dial-up Turbocharger™ can't reach its server over the internet.

Please make sure you are connected to the internet.

If you are on a high speed connection (ADSL, broadband, cable), the Dial-up Turbocharger™ might automatically detect this and decide not to connect.

If your internet connection is working and you still see the warning sign, please check your connection settings.

Do you see a black "X" cross in the bottom right corner of your screen?

The black cross means the Dial-up Turbocharger™ is stopped or that it can't sign into its server.

Please try restarting the Dial-up Turbocharger™ to see if it can sign in when it restarts.

Please make sure your username and password are typed correctly in your connection settings.

Why can't I right-click on an image to access the "Show Original Image" option?

The "Show Original Image" or "Show All Original Image" option are available only if you browse with the following web browsers:

  • Internet Explorer 5.0 and later,
  • Firefox 1.0 and later,
  • Netscape 7.2 and later,
  • Mozilla 1.7.3 and later.

The Dial-up Turbocharger™ must be started before Internet Explorer is started in order to have the "Show Original Image" menu option.

Some websites turn off the right-click. On other sites, the image might be a background image.

To see the original quality image under these conditions, change the Image Setting to "Original", hold down the Ctrl key while clicking the Refresh button in Internet Explorer.

Why can't I see some specific web sites with the Dial-up Turbocharger™?

The web sites may be blocked by the Dial-up Turbocharger™'s popup blocker.

Please try turning off the popup blocker in the popup blocker settings, and see if you can open the website with the blocking turned off.

If you can see the website with the popup blocker off but not when its on, you can add the website to the popup blocker white list, then turn popup blocking back on.

Why is Internet Explorer (IE) not working with the Dial-up Turbocharger™?

Please try restarting the Dial-up Turbocharger™ to see if it automatically sets Internet Explorer up when it restarts.

Are you using the newest version of Internet Explorer? Please try the most recent version and see if it fixes the problem.

Why is Firefox not working with the Dial-up Turbocharger™?

Please try restarting the Dial-up Turbocharger™ to see if it automatically sets Firefox up when it restarts.

Are you using the newest version of Firefox? Please try the most recent version and see if it fixes the problem.

Why is Opera not working with the Dial-up Turbocharger™?

Please try restarting the Dial-up Turbocharger™ to see if it automatically sets Opera up when it restarts.

Are you using the newest version of Opera? Please try the most recent version and see if it fixes the problem.

Why is Mozilla not working with the Dial-up Turbocharger™?

Please try restarting the Dial-up Turbocharger™ to see if it automatically sets Mozilla up when it restarts.

Are you using the newest version of Mozilla? Please try the most recent version and see if it fixes the problem.

Why is Netscape not working with the Dial-up Turbocharger™?

Please try restarting the Dial-up Turbocharger™ to see if it automatically sets Netscape up when it restarts.

Are you using the newest version of Netscape? Please try the most recent version and see if it fixes the problem.

Why do some Java applets (such as certain games on www.pogo.com) not work?

Some Java applets don't work because older versions of Java cannot display certain image types (such as PNG).

Are you using the newest version of Java? Specifically, the Java Runtime Environment (JRE) used by your web browser. Please try the most recent version and see if it fixes the problem.

Or try changing your image settings to maximum quality.

Troubleshooting email and FTP.

Dial-up Turbocharger™ says "Another application is listening on the FTP port."
Dial-up Turbocharger™ says "Another application is listening on the FTP data port."
Dial-up Turbocharger™ says "Another application is listening on the SMTP email port (25)."
Dial-up Turbocharger™ says "Another application is listening on the IMAP email port (143)."
Dial-up Turbocharger™ says "Another application is listening on the POP3 email port (110)."

Some other types of software need the same sort of access to your email and FTP data transfer as the Dial-up Turbocharger™.

This message tells us that another program is preventing the Dial-up Turbocharger™ from speeding up your email or your FTP.

Web access will still be turbocharged; only speeding up of email or FTP is turned off if this happens.

To let the Dial-up Turbocharger™ speed up your email or FTP, you'll have to find out which software is accessing your email or FTP, and turn it off.

(Some types of programs that might cause this message are: Virus checkers; anti_virus scanners; firewalls; spam filters; ad blockers; proxies; web accelerators.)

Why does the Dial-up Turbocharger™ performance screen show a different speed to the dial-up connection status screen?

The short answer is that the Dial-up Turbocharger™ is showing you the true speed and the connection status is showing you a slightly wrong speed.

The long explanation behind the different speeds is that, sadly, "kbps" doesn't always mean the same thing on computers.
